With more and more people joining the Twitter network everyday, it doesn’t seem like the number of Twitter users is going to reach its peak just yet. However if you’re 25 and under, you’re not contributing to the site’s increasing growth.
The recent findings of a Morgan Stanley report, written by a 15 year old, has now been backed up by a Nielsen report producing figures proving evident that young people don’t Tweet.
Nielsen has gathered data from its NetRatings panel of 250,000 US Internet users and discovered that there aren’t so many young people using Twitter as there are Internet in general. According to Nielsen, only 16 percent of Twitter users were under the age of 25, and with people under 25 making up nearly one quarter of the World Wide Web, Twitter is under-indexing on the youth market by 36 per cent.
Although the Nielsen Ratings Report is only measuring people who visit Twitter.com, and not clients using mobile devices or desktops, it shows that its main user base is 64 percent aged 25 to 54, and even more surprising, 20 percent are aged 55+!
