WinRAR is a shareware archive application originally developed for Windows (Mac and Linux versions are also available). Using WinRAR a user can reduce the size of their files for purposes such as email attachments and backing up data. WinRAR can compress and decompress a large number of archive files, the most common of these being RAR and ZIP. Other file extensions handled by WinRAR are ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, EXE, 7z and Z. WinRAR also allows users to encrypt their archive files.

Note: “winrar” is also used colloquially as an intention misspelling of “winner”. Ex: “you are teh winrar”.
